TOP LEFT            IN 1642   CHIEF SHOLAN OF THE NASHAWAY NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBE  

                                      TRANSFERRED 9000 ACRES OF MAINLY FORESTED LANDS TO SETTLERS.   

 

TOP RIGHT         IN1774 JOHN CHAPMAN IV, LATER TO BE KNOWN AS JOHNNY APPLESEED,

                                       WAS BORN AND LIVED HIS EARLIEST YEARS.

                                       MOST SETTLERS PLANTED APPLES FOR CIDER.

 

BOTTOM LEFT                THE OLD POST AND BEAM COW BARN WAS BUILT IN THE 1880’s.

                                                      FOR A LONG TIME THIS LAND WAS A FAMILY FARM AND DAIRY.

 

BOTTOM RIGHT           IN 1920 THE  OWNERS CHANGED THE LAND’S USE FROM DAIRYING

                                                       BACK TO ORCHARDING, PLANTING NEW APPLE TREES.  

 

                               LATER IN THE 20th CENTURY THE FARM, WOODS AND ORCHARD WERE 

NEARLY LOST THANKFULLY SHOLAN FARMS WAS SAVED FROM  DESTRUCTION AND  DEVELOPMENT IN 2001 BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE   WORKED TOGETHER TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT ITS UNIQUE HISTORY AND POSSIBILITIES. 


CENTER              PRESENT   SHOLAN FARMS IS GOING STRONG ONCE AGAIN.IT IS A PLACE WHERE  HEALTHY FOODS GROW AND PEOPLE CAN COME TO ENJOY MANY                                                             WONDERFUL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, PICKING FRUIT, HELPING TO GROW                                                   VEGETABLES, VISITING THE FARM STANDS, HIKING TRAILS, WAGON RIDES,                                      CONCERTS AND FAIRS, EVENTS WITH LIVESTOCK WITH MUCH MORE TO                                                           COME IN THE FUTURE.      

  

                          PEOPLE COME ESPECIALLY FOR APPLES. THERE ARE NEARLY 40 KINDS                                                       OF APPLES, SOME ARE OLD, RARE AND SPECIALTY TYPES . THE  APPLE  SEASON LASTS FROM

AUGUST TO LATE OCTOBER.
