This piece was created specifically for this art benefit event and is meant to honor all the diverse peoples of Ukraine, their long and noble history, and the suffering and loss they are currently enduring.   In the rubble and despair of war their beauty and the beauty of their country may be marred and obscured but their vision of freedom and its promises still shines clearly and brightly in their hearts and perseverence.

As the National Anthem of Ukraine proclaims:

"Ukraine is not yet lost! " ("Shche ne vmerla Ukrainas")

LYRICS TO UKRANIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM

The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished
Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians.
Our enemies will die, as the dew does in the sunshine,
and we, too, brothers, we'll live happily in our land.

We’ll not spare either our souls or bodies to get freedom
and we’ll prove that we brothers are of Kozak kin.

THE ETHNIC DIVERSITY OF UKRAINE

For the most part, Ukraine’s population self-identifies as ethnically Ukrainian or as ethnically Russian. However many people have mixed backgrounds. Some of the many other groups represented in its tapestry of peoples are: Crimean Tatars, Trans Carpathians, Bulgarians, Slovaks, Bella Russians, Moldovians, Georgians, Greeks, Hungarians, Germans, Estonians, Fins, Poles, Jews, Roma, Karaim and Krimchak and various other indigenous peoples. it is a fact however, that whatever conflicts or differences may have existed between people in Ukraine prior to 2022 their National Identity is now that of One People as never before.
